2024 OFO Convention Trip to Point Pelee: October 1

After a good night’s rest, we were treated to chef Colin’s signature peameal bacon and scrambled eggs. The bacon is so delicious with HP sauce.

Colin and Hilda helped us with all our luggage, and then, after a final thank you and goodbye, we were off.

Google warned us of an accident on Jane, so we took side streets to Keele and onto the 401. Once more time we had amazing luck with no traffic jams or slowdowns.

We stopped at the Ganaraska River at Port Hope to see if the salmon were jumping. Bill had a idea that the larger flow would draw more jumpers. He was right. There were many Chinook Salmon in the river below the falls and he even spotted a large Brown Trout. A salmon would jump every minute or so, giving easy photo ops.

Back on the 401 for a short time, we stopped at the Big Apple to buy some baking and treats for our grandsons.

We exited the 401 at Hwy 37 to go home by Tweed and Hwy 7. We had lunch at Tweed in the park and admired the different year classes of Ring-billed Gulls.

The trip on Hwy 7 was uneventful and more relaxing than the throughway. We arrived home in good time with many pleasant thoughts of the adventure with our birding buddies, Colin and Hilda.
