BIRD of the DAY: Black-headed Bulbul
We got another good view of "our" hornbill this
morning. It was a sunny day and the flowers were brilliant.
BUT... it was time to leave for another adventure in Nameri Tiger
Reserve. We packed up and were off right after breakfast.
We were driving beside the Kaziranga Park boundary, a well signed
road. We stopped a few times to seek out birds and wildlife. We
had some good sightings along the road.
We saw a tree full of fruit bats.
More wildlife...
We had a memorable encounter with two VERY loud long-armed
Western Hoolock Gibbons. We thought there were at least twenty of
them, but Shayam assured us there were only two, a brown female
and a grey male.

We were sorry to say goodbye to Kaziranga.
We passed a large group celebrating Holi. Then we crossed the
wide Bramaputra River to the busy town of Tezpur where there was
a Baskin and Robbins!
Soon we were in the countryside again and before long had arrived
at Eco Camp.
We set up in our "tent" cabin and enjoyed a beer with
our lunch.
We relaxed a bit exploring the grounds and finding some colorful
insects and birds. There were several dollar birds flitting about
a large tree.
Shyam suggested we hike on a trail to Nameri National Park on the
Kameng River. Alan was fighting a bad cold but he had rested and
was able to join us. We did see a few birds and were happy to get
to the river we would be crossing tomorrow in a large dugout
canoe to search for the elusive White-winged Duck.
As the sun set we took the road back to the Eco Camp for a
leisurely dinner before bed.
Note from Shyam: "Great to see the Western Hoolock Gibbon
and Black Giant Squirrel on the way to Nameri from Kaziranga.
Another memorable day."
