Les Îles de la Madeleine Family Cruise: August 8 -15, 2014
Day 7, August 14. Au revoir
It was 6:30am and foggy. We were passing Tadoussac so hoped to
see some whales. We looked hard but really there was only fog and
some rain. Sam was happy to see the glow of a lighthouse.
Barbara and Bill attended the presentation on the ship quiz
answers. It was an informative slide show. La famille Bowman came
first! Thanks to Sam's inspiration, Kirk checking number of
passengers in lifeboats, Grant reading our ship booklet and
finding answers, Barbara remembering the duties of Captain 3
(learned on the wheelhouse tour), asking about the ship's saint
(think Christmas) and checking with a purser officer to find out
the 8 duties of the purser office... Our prize: 5 bright yellow
XL t-shirts, a cruise carry bag and free drinks of l'ariel de
barbouchoux, a liqueur made on the islands, at tonight's cabaret
show with its cast of crew members.
We landed in Québec City. Time for a tasty lunch in the
Restaurant.
After lunch we hiked to the nearby Naval Museum.
As it wasn't raining, Kirk, Karine, Grant and boys decided to
bike along the waterway. They got their bikes off the ship and
cycled for a few hours. Bill and Barbara hiked around lower town,
visiting some of the same streets as last year on the family
train trip to Québec City. A major difference were suspended
"sculptures" of colourful plastic play things. Quite a
contrast to the Chateau Frontenac.
It was our last dinner on the ship. Delicious as usual. Little
David yawned and fell asleep. A talented pianist treated us to
soft background music.
After dinner David tucked into bed and Sam and Karine did some
dancing with Brigitte Leblanc.
After the sun set, Bill and Barbara enjoyed the cabaret and their
special drinks. Bill had a good chat with Beth, an American
cyclist in our biking group.
Our ship was on its way to Montreal...
