Les Îles de la Madeleine Family Cruise: August 8 -15, 2014
Day 2, August 9. Beluga
We woke to a very foggy morning as the sun rose. With coffee in
hand, we looked over the water. Maybe we would be lucky and spot
a whale today.
We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in the Restaurant. Sam was
focused on looking out the window to see a whale.
After breakfast Sam and Grandpa spotted a spouting and saw a
white back. Right away Sam said , "beluga".
We tried out the on deck cycling, but mostly we spent the morning
looking over the water.
Barbara and Bill attended an interesting presentation on the
history of les Îles
Lunch doubled as a time look for more action on the water... Bill
found this a good day for sighting birds...
Besides the common Ring-billed and Herring Gulls, Bill spotted
the first of many Northern Gannets.
In the afternoon, more relaxing on deck... Sam spent some time
constructing a lego fire truck and David played with his popular
train.
Tonight was a special lobster dinner... Lobster is a major export
for les Îles.
After dinner, Sam spotted a lighthouse. We were rounding the
Gaspé at Forillion National Park.
Overnight we would land at Chandler, then make the long crossing
to les Îles.
