Huron Fringe Birding Festival:
DAY 1 Thursday, May 21, 2015
A long drive
Bird of the day: Eastern Bluebird
Our google maps route to MacGregor Point Provincial Park took us
from Ottawa across southern Ontario, north of Peterborough and
through Bancroft south of Algonquin Park. We spent much of the
eight hour trip on back country roads. It was a beautiful spring
drive, and included some en route birding, with finds such as
Eastern Bluebird, European Starling, Common Grackle, Cooper's
Hawk and American Crow.
We arrived at the park about 3pm, registered with the festival at
the Visitor Centre, and were soon set up in Algonquin Campground
Site 36, a large site with a large pond behind us. We had supper
and then explored the park, discovering some lovely wildflowers
as well as Mallards and a Belted Kingfisher.
A spectacular sunset over Lake Huron and at our pond completed
our day.
