Huron Fringe Birding Festival 2024
May 24 pm - Magical MacGregor with Tim Arthur
At 1:30 pm, we met our afternoon Guide, Tim Arthur. He guided us
around the boardwalk where we saw a Painted turtle and a family
group of Hooded Mergansers.
We got in our cars, and drove the short way to Bruce Road 33,
stopping to hike into the Stump Dump. We had to watch carefully
for the campers on bicycles, but managed to see many flycatchers,
including Olive-sided, Eastern Wood Pewee, Great Crested and
Eastern Kingbird.
After that, we drove to the DU Pond on the Townline Road. We
hiked in and climbed the tower. We saw a Gray Catbird, more
turtles, a Yellow Warbler, Baltimore Oriole, another Pewee, and
an American Redstart. Out on the road, we saw a back-lit Mourning
Warbler.
What a lot of hiking this day between the two tours; we were
bushed. We drove back to the Super 8, got cleaned up, and went
across the road to the Lord Elgin Fish & Chips restaurant.
We were talking about the War Museum and Barbaras
fathers war service. So, Hilda asked the young lady
waitress, a first-year university student, if she know much about
the war. She regretfully admitted that she knew next to nothing.
We concluded that our high school syllabus needed some work in
that area.
We enjoyed our meal and headed to bed, setting our alarms for
another early start.
