The French-Canadian, who was speaking in yesterday’s FIA Press Conference, has endured a tough season with BAR in 2003. Although he has suffered from numerous mechanical problems, he has been out- paced by his team-mate, Jenson Button, which has led to speculation that his future in Formula 1 maybe uncertain.
However, Villeneuve remains pragmatic about the situation, and is keeping his cards close to his chest.
“Some rumours make you smile and make you happy, so it’s good to read them, and some of them they make you very unhappy. But there are a lot of rumours going on, but there’s nothing to say right now.”
Even so, Villeneuve admitted the driver market "doesn't seem very open" and his best bet of staying in Formula One is to retain his seat with BAR.
There have been widespread rumours that Takuma Sato will join Button at BAR next season, and if this is case, it leaves Villeneuve future in Formula 1 far from certain.
