HAYATE'S NETHACK MEMOIRS
======================== PART 15: PER ASPERA AD ASTRA

Well, I know where my altar is now - on the far left. Just need to get there. The little 'danger' question marks imply Pestilence is revived and back in the middle atrium, perhaps with Death behind him... then I'm blinded by a priest and can see the people clearly. Haha! Death got stuck behind all the insects, he's still WAY back on the right! *happy dance* My GAngel is still loitering around the altar there too (along with some other role character I missed?), while Airy got teleported off to where I'm headed now; he still seems to be paralyzed.

Do need to deal with Pestilence again though. ZAP. Dead. (Using the wand by now, what with the drain on my spells. Next Wizard to come up here should probably bring some potions of gain energy instead of quaffing them all in the Dungeons.) There's a path, won't take the time to unblind myself. Wander out; did feel nervous in there. The red question mark now just inside the door is likely that black pudding. Insects at the doorway. Finally remember that while spells are draining, I can still chuck daggers. (See, my intellect is still there, I've just been kind of FREAKING OUT.) So throw daggers (and retrieve them) to emerge and head around to the far left.

Unbelievable. There's a silver dragon blocking the hallway. Don't want to waste teleport on a single thing, so will apparently have to kill one of these beasties after all. Fire missiles! They reflect... duh. (No, really, I'm still intelligent.) Start whacking at him. Have a sad feeling... aw! That was probably Airy, waking up and getting suicidal. Silver dragon's down now though, and to spite me he left scales. Ignoring them, I head for the last major door. On my way through it, another sad feeling - so much for my pets. At some point here, I quaff a second potion of full healing.

On the bright side, Famine seems to have wandered through Door2, and is stuck behind nasties in the altar area. Meanwhile, Marvin the Arbalester (a ranger) is out here - maybe he's got some good loot. Death ray doesn't affect him though... darn, he's got grey scale mail like me. Fire daggers! Eventually that gets him; I missile the beetle that stepped onto his stuff. Let's see - no artifacts, but lots of gems! (3 emeralds, 3 agate, jet stone, obsidian, sapphire, black opal, amber, aquamarine, jacinth, jade, dilithium.) Mine! MINE I tell you! *ahem* Stick my key into my bag along with them, the remaining doors are open.

Now for the final altar. ZAP wand of death to Famine before he gets near me; Warwick the Reaver (a barbarian) dies to the same shot. Now I just have to get there around these angels... I think one of them I angered with an errant shot too... hm, Maud the Champion (a valkyrie) keeps popping into the altar door and shooting something. Wait until the high priest isn't in behind her, zap spell of death. Warwick had no gems, but had Frost Brand (turns out to be +8?!). Maud had Cleaver, some healing potions, and gems including: luckstone, topaz, turquoise, 2 jade, 3 chrysoberyl, citrine, aquamarine, jasper, diamond, sapphire, 2 dilithium, fluorite... also 9 rocks and a worthless orange glass, don't need those. (What was Maud thinking?)

Can take my time now; only a vampire lord inside Door3, and he's turning to flee. (YES!) Three irate angels file in after me as I step to the altar. I can't believe it... I'm about to WIN. Hell, I still have all my amulets of life saving, and I'm proud to say I DIDN'T NEED THEM. (Sesshomaru and Miaka both burned one.) In fact, while I could ascend now, I can't resist showing off a bit. Let's make sure that history never forgets the name... HAYATE YAGAMI.

First, dispatch this vampire. Whack at him, then when he walks away, fire a couple magic missiles (once I'm sure they won't bounce and hit the priest). It's dead. Then stick my new loot in the bag, and get out that unidentified ring from earlier. ID it... ring of sustain ability. Meh. At the same time, ID the Amulet of Yendor itself, and a couple of Maud's healing potions (hm, one extra healing one is cursed). What now...

Well, I had planned to graduate as a "Mage". Quaff the four potions of gain level I brought with me (the last two I guzzle down without anyone else getting an action!). Now I'm level 30. *proud smile* In the background, Famine's revived himself and is peering through the door, probably wondering what's taking me so long. Debate shooting a death blast at him, but the priest is right behind me, in reflection range. Anyway, three Angels keep whacking on me from the right, between us. So what now?

Oh, right, still have a wish. Remove wand of wishing. Wish for 3 blessed dilithium crystals! I get one. *blush* I guess three was a bit greedy. Still, helps my score. Anything else? Hm, Famine's come inside, and the priest isn't lined up now... I still have some spellcasting power, and feel confident enough to do that dramatic pose, where I whip out the Book of the Dead. *wink* ZOT! Famine's down again (dramatically!). *smile* *adjust my hairpin*

Might as well deal with these angels too, they're becoming tiresome. Start wailing on them; one gets confused by Magicbane and wanders off, one goes down, then the next too. Hm - do I step away from the altar to get the wandering one? Oh, sure.

Step away... immediately surrounded by monsters, including an iron golem now on the altar!! *smack forehead* So, I'm smart, but that was dumb of me. Make a mental note not to do THAT again, as I start beating up the iron golem. Aha, but fortunately the monsters realize we're in my sacred place and turn to flee. I get back up on the altar, whacking the golem a couple more times, killing it for it's insolence. Whack the xan too. Whoops, Famine's revived himself. Hee hee! The confused Angel hits him.

Oh, fine; Nanoha-chan, Fate-chan, consider your deaths avenged. I zap one last finger of death over at Famine - that got him (and anything else in range). Quaff Maud's potion of extra healing; nice, I'm fully healed! Offer the amulet. . . . . . .

You offer the Amulet of Yendor to Anhur... An invisible choir sings, and you are bathed in radiance...
The voice of Anhur thunders: "Congratulations, mortal!"
"In return for thy service, I grant thee the gift of Immortality!"
You ascend to the status of Demigoddess...
