Product Code: MEC0012

Price: 4 USD ( Order Form )

Files: 4 movies (512 X 384 pixels).  Each movie is provided in AVI and Quicktime format.

Passenger in a car in circular motion

Images from each animation (reduced size)

Description: When a passenger is in a car turning to the right, he seems to be pushed toward the left.  This set of four movies shows that, if the force of friction on the passenger is negligible, the passenger moves in uniform straight line motion while the car moves in circular motion .

1st movie:   perspective view, with a stationary camera.

2nd movie:  view from above, with a camera moving with the car.

3rd movie:  view from above, with a stationary camera; the straight line motion of the passenger is shown as red dots.

4th movie:  same as 3rd movie, but the centripetal acceleration of the car is shown as an arrow.
