Mitch said they had to straighten this out immediately since he was an ex-con.
Adam is going to get a medal. Wow. Decorated. He and MJ said great things about each other. Sara brought Chad in for drinks and pointed to Adam and MJ, saying this proved he had to give up on MJ.
Donna arrived at the romance a little early with a bunch of brownies. The sinister Joe arrived in the guise of a caterer and promptly got on the phone. (Why does he do this? I'm surprised he's not afraid of being caught.)
Lisa and Jamie went down to the shore. He promised to be patient. She pulled away when he got carried away. They looked at the stars instead. She took him up on his offer of popcorn and a walk on the pier.
Chad refused to see it. Wally suggested he and Sara go to a movie. Chad tried to get out of it but Sara was persistent. Chad seemed impressed. Cheryl and Julie Ann came to pick up MJ. They informed Adam that at bridal showers the women sat around and smoked cigars and watched dirty movies, and Cheryl reported on Mary's fever. "101.4 . . . Pops is feeding her aspirin and chicken soup and they're fighting like crazy. It's so cute." Julie went over to Sara to offer a ride. Sara said she could get to the shower under her own steam. Cheryl and MJ and Julie left. Chad went over to bug Adam.
Mitch checked photographs to see if he had a shot of the thief. (He'd put the note in his hand, so he'd recognise him. Stupid. Why didn't he think of it before?) Felicia listened to the radio and yelled at it when her outfit was described as a white pantsuit. She mourned the failure of her plans. Mitch: Is something wrong? Felicia: I'm just being hunted like the Ma Barker of the art world. Mitch: well, if it makes you feel any better you're not alone. Felicia: Yes, and they didn't say over 150,000 watts that you were wearing a WHITE PANTSUIT. Mitch: well, I'm not. Felicia: Well am I? Mitch: are you? She tried to explain why she was in a bad mood and referred to him as the man she loved. He asked if she meant it. She more or less admitted it. His photos finished developing and he found the one he wanted and said they had to call the police.
Adam was fairly short with Chad. Chad: I just want to offer my congratulations. Adam: Duly noted. Thank you. Chad: Oh, I get it. You're a big hero now. You got a medal and everything but you've got no time for the public, is that it? Adam: There's nothing changed, Rollo. I didn't have time for you before and I don't have time for you now. Chad: You know, there's one thing I just don't understand about that medal. You weren't exactly efficient. How many times did you bungle it and get the wrong guy? Adam: Is that what this is about? You're ticked off because you were a suspect? Chad: NO, I LOVED being a suspect. And so did Tony Carlisle, and Greg Houston. Adam: Do you know WHY I kept coming back to you, time and time again? Because you're HOSTILE. And you're suspicious. And you're hiding SOMETHING. Chad: That's not why you kept after me, Cory. Adam: Why don't you just go back to the bar, all right? This is a nice restaurant. I don't want to make a scene. Chad: You kept after me because MJ stood up for me and you couldn't handle it. Adam I couldn't stand you from the first time I saw you, pal. Chad: I make you nervous, don't I. Adam: You don't make me nervous. I know exactly what to do with guys like you. Chad: I'm sure you do. You've got great instincts. I mean, you had me pegged for the murderer, and Tony, and Greg, and meanwhile you're working shoulder to shoulder with the guy. Adam: Maybe you weren't the murderer, but I wasn't wrong about you. You are hiding SOMETHING. Chad: Oh, like what? Adam: I don't know. YET. All I know is every time I get around you I get this FEELING in the pit of my stomach. Now why do you suppose that is, Rollo? Chad: Gee, I just don't know. But why don't you do some of that detective work you're so famous for and find out? Adam: Maybe I'll do that. Chad: It won't bother ME. But you may get more than you bargained for, partner.
MJ and Cheryl and Julie Ann arrived at the romance. Everybody chatted about those absent. A package came from Rome. MJ doubted it was from Cass and Kathleen for her. They opened it. Joe replaced Adam's mother's gift with the tape. The package was filled with Amanda's Italian purchases. Rachel was not delighted. She wondered why the stuff came there.
The police recognised the guy. They had Mitch and Felicia remain in the hotel. Felicia chafed but Mitch made her feel better.
Lisa began to feel better. Jamie was glad. He said he'd like to kiss her. Silence. He assured her again that his feelings toward her hadn't changed. She said he didn't understand. He said that he understood that she was kind and good and as innocent as the day he'd met her. (Ugh.) She thought about Gollum telling her how pure she was and became agitated. She told Jamie he couldn't love her because she wasn't good and then she fled. He said he'd kill Gollum.
Chad told Sara Adam didn't deserve MJ if she couldn't be honest with him. Sara asked for a raincheck on the movies. She refused to give up on him and left to go to the shower.
Rachel and Ada wondered if Amanda was coming home. They suggested MJ open her presents. MJ decided to save Adam's mother's present until last for no reason.
Mitch and Felicia ignored their surroundings as much as possible. Kissing. Mitch told Felicia he was in love with her. She was pleased.
Wally tried to feed Adam. Adam scowled at Chad and refused to eat. Adam: tell me why you hire jerks like that for this place, huh? Wallingford: Adam, come on. The kid's not so bad. Adam: He's not such a KID. He's more than old enough to know exactly what he's doing. Wally: Okay, okay, so once in a while he shoots his mouth off, all right? Adam: I'll say so. Wally: But he's OKAY. Adam: MJ comes to his defense too. I don't get this. Wally: WELL OBVIOUSLY SHE HAS A SOFT SPOT FOR JERKS. Adam looked stunned for a moment and then grinned enchantingly. They both laughed. Adam agreed to eat, but Chad came over to say the jail was calling because Jamie insisted on being allowed to visit with Gollum. Adam dashed. He was unable to stay and visit with Lisa. She came in and sat down. Wally stopped to chat and offer sustenance. Lisa promised she'd call if she did want anything. She whipped out her journal and began to write that no one would be able to understand.
Jamie said he had to change Gollum's dressing. Gollum was alarmed and said he wasn't his doctor, but the guard let him in and went away, whereupon Jamie attacked him [Gollum] with fatal intent. He demanded to know what Gollum had done to Lisa. Gollum maintained that Lisa was a slut, just like all the others. Jamie began smashing his [Gollum's] head against things. Adam burst in. Jamie kept screaming "KILL HIM" and Adam kept yelling "stop it" and Gollum just hit things a lot. Eventually Adam broke it up, although Jamie kept yelling.
Lisa is convinced she'll lose Jamie if she tells him. She remembered Gollum's trying to rape her with a bit we hadn't seen at the time added. She told him that she wasn't pure, because one of her mother's boyfriends had raped her when she was fourteen. That was what stopped Ol' Gollum. She said she couldn't take it again.
Everyone admired MJ's gifts. They got Adam's mother's present. MJ held it gingerly. Rachel said it must be old home movies of Adam. Everyone was eager for her to show them. Rachel pointed to the VCR.
The police interrupted to say that the guy had confessed and they [Mitch and Felicia] were off the hook. Let's get this show on the road.
