Lisa is nervous about starting her new job with Adam.
Cheryl and Scott arrived at a cozy beach cottage. Cheryl was skittish.
Nancy brought Mac and Rachel breakfast in bed. Tony phoned. Nancy panicked. Rachel answered. Tony: [in accents of considerable surprise] Rachel. I'm glad you were able to answer the phone. Rachel: I've been able to do that for quite some time. He asked to talk to Nancy. Rachel asked why Tony thought she wouldn't be able to answer the phone. Nancy refused to take the call. Rachel took a message. Nancy admitted she'd told Tony Rachel's back was out and she was helping. She denied suspecting Tony.
Lisa is afraid she won't be able to have premonitions at will. That Old Carrot swept in to speak with Scott. Mary took him aside to talk away from Vince.
Cheryl insisted on unpacking. Scott pawed her impractical underwear. She went to marvel at the view. Scott attacked her. She took off. He pursued her.
Adam joined the party in the Cory bedroom [by now including Matthew] to ask Nancy if he could use her apartment to get inside the killer's head. Matthew wanted to come along but Rachel told him in a damping tone to eat his muffin. Nancy hesitated. Mac emerged from the shower and asked if this were a bus stop. Adam told Nancy he didn't have time to waste. Nancy refused. Adam pled. Mac and Rachel sent Matthew downstairs. Nancy caved in and said she'd go with him now. They left. Rachel said she intended to find out about Tony.
Lisa and Jamie discussed the Singapore jaunt. Lisa loves Mitch better than Jamie does. She thrills to Singapore.
Mary told Reginald Scott had gone to Cape Cod with Cheryl. He enthused about love and said pitiful things about his own situation.
Cheryl showed Scott dogwood and said it proved it was spring. She seemed more relaxed. Kissing.
Jamie wangled an invitation to the Cory Romance to meet Queenie and Dina and Dixie, his girls. Rachel told Mac she thought he should slow down a little. She's afraid Nancy's afraid to admit she was wrong about Tony. Mac admitted he had his doubts about Tony too.
Mary's on a first name basis and coffee-having terms with her literature professor. Vince gave her a hard time a little. Yes, but can he bowl? was his point.
Tony was not pleased to see Adam. He told him he had to have a search warrant. Nancy broke it up. Tony accused Adam of having intimidated Nancy. He was a jerk. Adam was reasonable. Nancy took his side. She persuaded him. He suggested they spend the day together. When she suggested later he went out. She was suspicious. She waited outside while Adam prowled around in his killer mode.
Lisa and Jamie went to the police station. Officer Val showed them her desk and their identification badges. Jamie has been declared the official jailhouse doctor, you see. They sat in silence. The desk intimidates her. She tried to flee. He reassured her.
Greg left a vital message with Mary for Nancy and fled. Vince said he thought that kid got stranger and stranger. Vince talked about Wallace Stevens. Mary said things about going to college. He was much struck by the notion. [Whatever became of his appreciation of Joyce? Or was he agin him? Whichever it is I had the impression of McKinnons as literate people.]
Adam talked into his little tape recorder. He imagined the attack on Nancy as the killer must have seen it. He let Nancy back in and said he thought he'd figured something out. He thinks the killer likes to wait until the victim feels absolutely safe. Nancy saw his point. Adam thanked her for her cooperation. Adam: take care of yourself. Nancy: that's easy to say. I never take showers any more. I only take baths. Adam: yeah, well, don't see a movie called Diabolique. There's a bathtub scene. Nancy: oh, great. Now I'll have to get myself dry cleaned, Adam. Adam: I'm serious. Be careful. He left. Nancy found a set of keys to the Wilcox apartments. Apt 502.
Vince returned to Mary's Place with a college calendar for spring. Sauce for the gander, he explained. He said he'd enrolled for one class on the strength of his old acceptance. She forbade him to follow her around. He said he was in basic accounting with a woman prof. Caroline Arley. She found out his class was the same time as her literature. She was suspicious. He suggested that they carpool together.
Cheryl and Scott returned from the grocery store. She's nervous again. Scott confronted her about her delaying tactics. He told her he loved her. She denied being scared. She suggested a picnic and a sailing trip.
Jamie made Lisa put her feet up. He repinned her ID badge. Adam came in and went straight to the computer without acknowledging them. He told them what he was doing.
Scott and Cheryl fooled around in the fake sand. They decided to go inside.
Nancy recognized something of Tony's in apt 502. She panicked when the doorknob turned.
