Nicole brought the paper in and woke Cass with a hand on his thigh. He had fallen asleep on the couch reading a book about death. Cass has decided to celebrate life. Nicole has a reason.
Adam mused on the subject of André Battelier. He summoned Roxanne, told her not to call him chief, and told her he needed three hookers. She arched her eyebrows [she's an angular redhead in a close-fitting dress] and asked if he wanted them personally. [Slightly tactless, considering MJ.] Lisa overheard him amend his request to one for undercover brunettes. Roxanne got to work. Lisa offered to be a brunette. Adam refused.
Vince found Mary working in Mary's Place. She assured him she wasn't involved in the Elizabeth investigation. He wandered off. Jason approached. Mary told him they couldn't get a warrant to search That Old Carrot's suite. Jason was put out. We need that gun, he said. [Beg pardon but isn't this an eighteen-year-old crime we have on our hands here? What reason would a Carrot have for keeping a murder weapon that long, apart from stupidity, which abounds? Sentimental value? [Fond sigh. "and that's the gun I shot my wife with."]] Scott overheard and asked what gun. Mary said no gun. Jason said pistol, probably .38 calibre. Scott said oh, you mean like that gun dad gave me in Paraguay. [!!!] Mary stared. Jason asked if he still had it. Scott said he did. Mary said she didn't want him involved. She asked Jason to leave them alone. She told Scott why they needed the gun.
Adam told Lisa it wasn't her job. Roxanne came in and said the cupboard was bare. Lisa pestered Adam. Roxanne told Adam he was wanted in Delaney's office. The second he left her alone, Lisa ran off to be disobedient.
Cass was thrilled to hear Nicole had finished her last design. He embraced her joyfully. She was a little embarrassed. He went to get some champagne.
Mary asked Scott to go look for the gun. He was reluctant. She told him that That Old Carrot had changed since Paraguay and he had been responsible for the bomb that had almost killed her and Jason. Scott became less reluctant.
Dawn played the piano in her room. Scott found her making changes. She told him the piece would be finished by graduation. He went to the closet and found a box. [Oh. Is it his room, then?] The gun was not inside. Dawn said she'd taken it.
Lisa, all tarted up, walked into Gino & Dominic's and demanded of André Batellier if he'd seen her boyfriend. He said he hadn't and invited her to wait with him. He is known to have a penchant for brunettes. Lisa smiled and introduced herself as Roxie. She expressed tremendous interest in his work. He told her they could discuss it over dinner in his room. She said she'd call him and undulated out.
It had made Dawn nervous having a gun in the closet so she'd put it in the storage closet down the hall. Scott went to get it. He told Dawn he'd explain later.
Mary was saddened thinking of Paraguay. Scott brought the gun down. Jason said the evidence would put That Old Carrot away.
Cass didn't want to discuss the possibility of his moving on. Nicole thanked him for all his help. They kissed. Blech. They adjourned to the couch. The phone rang. They tried to ignore it but eventually Cass got up. It was Felicia. She said KBAY wanted to put them on the news. Nicole started cleaning. The doorbell rang. The news arrived.
Scott said the next step would be to have Elizabeth exhumed. Jason blanched but grimly resigned himself. Mary said it might not be the gun. They all decided to go see Adam but Zack appeared and waylaid Scott. Zack told Scott they could keep Dawn in school until the case had been ruled on, by which time she will have graduated. Scott said Dawn might not go for it. She's against publicity. Dawn appeared and furiously proclaimed her desire to make her own decisions.
That Old Carrot dropped by André's suite and told him to drop the accent. André did. That Old Carrot read the report of Mary's movements and noticed she'd been out to the Hudson estate [meaning the Love estate]. Suddenly André noticed Nicole on the television. That Old Carrot said they'd see how proud she was when her designs were blown to bits in a plane. He sent André out after Mary. They both went out. Seeing them leave, Lisa collared a maid and convinced her she had locked herself out of André's room. The maid unlocked the door for her.
Adam was cranky after his talk with Cap'n Delaney. He cheered right up when Jason and Mary walked in with their gun. He turned the gun over to Roxanne to take to Damaso in ballistics. Adam had Mary leave him and Jason alone. He asked why Jason hadn't said anything for eighteen years. Jason said he hadn't seen the point in accusing a dead Carrot. Adam pointed out he had waited six weeks after finding That Old Carrot alive in Bay City before coming to him. Jason said he'd thought Adam would want proof. Adam told him not to leave town.
Scott apologized to Dawn. She was not appeased. She told them not to discuss things without her. She sat down with them. Zack told her she had to confront prejudice to stop it. She said she wasn't sure it was worth it. She asked Scott if he thought she wanted to spend the little time she had left fighting.
The news took its leave of Cass and Nicole. Cass told Nicole he was proud to be her partner. She asked if he was thinking about more than business.
Lisa searched the room. André came back and found her.
Dawn said she wanted to go upstairs and take a rest. Vince took a phone call from Roxanne for Mary. Roxanne left the message that Adam might have a result from the ballistics test. Mary walked in. Vince passed on the message and asked about her involvement.
Cass said it was more. Nicole said they should talk about it. The discussion was not very successful. They went back to kissing.
