Mac has bought KBAY. He wants to put Sandy in charge of it.
Sandy left. Donna told Peter not to embarrass her like that ever again. He said if she put Sandy in charge of the hospital he'd do more than embarrass her.
Alice thought she'd heard something. They left. Nancy's stranger assured her he wouldn't hurt her. Trust me, he said.
Catlin: What are you doing here, Willa? Willa: That's quite a greeting, after all this time. It's bee a long time since I -- Catlin: LOOK, I don't want any trouble from you. Willa: WHO is manhandling who. Catlin: I'm sorry. Willa: I haven't done nothing. I saw you and your lady friend sitting in there eating dinner. I didn't even walk past your table. Catlin: Why are you here? Willa: I don't want anything from you. Catlin: Oh, you came all the way from Cheyenne for a cheeseburger. Willa: I didn't just come all the way over here for a cheeseburger. I've been here for a while. As a matter of fact I've been watching you and your girlfriend for almost a month now. You make a real cute couple. Catlin: That's right, we do. And you're not going to make any trouble for us, are you, Willa. Willa: I guess trouble's all I ever was to you, huh. I didn't want it to be like that. Catlin: Now look, come on. Willa: I guess that's why I'm here. Catlin: Look, you've got to leave me alone now, okay? Willa: You're not even trying to listen to me. And I spent my last dime getting here. Catlin: How did you find out I was here? Willa: I saw your picture in the paper. I kept looking at it and got this idea that maybe this time things would be different between us. Catlin: There was never anything BETWEEN us. Except a lot of trouble. Willa: You're just saying that 'cause of what I did. And I wanted to make it all up to you until I saw how tight things were between you and that woman. Catlin: That's right. And she and her little boy are waiting for me inside so I've got to go, d'you understand? Willa: Catlin -- Catlin: WHAT? Willa: I guess deep down I know you never cared for me. I know I did you wrong. Catlin: FORGET IT. I have. Willa: 'Cause you're real happy now? Catlin: That's right. Willa: With Sally? Is that her name? Do you love her? Catlin: More than I thought I could ever love anyone again. Willa: That's good. I mean it, it's okay, honey. Look at me, I'm not cryin', I'm not throwin' a fit, I'm not doin' anything. Well I guess I was never one t listen to anybody else's love song, so I might as well just take off. See ya. Catlin: Willa -- are you staying out of trouble? Willa: See, you do care. Least a little. I knew you did. Ha.
Donna told Peter that Sandy was the most capable man for the job. Peter insinuated that hospital chairman was not all she wanted Sandy for. She chose to ignore that. She said she wants Sandy to make the hospital make money. Peter wants to take the hosp. administratorship. Donna told him the Board did not appreciate his part in the return of Emily and it wouldn't be good. He said he'd fight her on this.
Dee and Lily are going out to a movie. Cass was in favour. Dee asked if he were coming. He begged ballet spectating with Kathleen. Dee accused him of appreciating the chicks in their short skirts and tights more than the dancing. Enter Kathleen. Lily admired Kathleen's attire. Dee: Yeah. That skirt oughta be shorter. Like them CHICKS'. Dee and Lily left. Kathleen raved about seeing Sleeping Beauty again. Cass was silent. Kathleen: Cass, is something wrong? Cass: One wisp of hair has fallen on your forehead. You look so beautiful. Kathleen: All my life I've wanted somebody to brush aside a wisp of hair on my forehead. Cass: Well I'm sure at least a hundred men have wanted to. Kathleen: No, um, I'm not exactly the wispy type. Cass: I don't agree. I think you're very wispy. Kathleen: You do? Cass: Mhm. Winsome. Wonderful. Beautiful. Kathleen: I am? Cass: You are. Silence. Most beautiful. Silence. Now, um. I think -- we'd better leave. Kathleen: Yeah. Cass: We'll be late. Kathleen: Late. Cass: And so, I really, really think that we should go. Kathleen: Very soon. Cass: I love that wisp. Silence.
Sally witnessed Catlin and Willa. Kevin asked what was taking Catlin so long. Sally asked him not to tell Catlin she'd been looking for him "because I know you guys don't like it when some dumb girl's worrying." Kevin accepted this. Catlin returned. Sally asked if anything were wrong. Catlin said everything was great. Sally suggested they leave. Kevin wanted Catlin to help him with the juke box so not just yet.
Nancy told her stranger he was pretty sneaky. She told him about Katie. He told her a couple of strange stories explaining her presence. She told him she'd stand guard while he did what he did if he'd punch up Katie's records for her. Deal. Katie's doing well. The stranger vanished.
Rachel wants to take a 4th honeymoon in New York. She has some form of artistic meeting there. Mac will. Kissing. Ada dashed through to answer the door. Blaine. Ada told on Mac and Rachel. "They were necking," she said. Mac told Blaine about the 4th honeymoon and wanting her and Sandy to run KBAY. Blaine's thrilled. She told them about Donna though.
Donna told Alice how much she appreciated her as a physician. She mentioned the future plans she had for the hospital Sandy etc. and said she hoped she had her support and wanted her to speak to the board. Alice was averse. Donna dangled a trauma unit before her but Alice won't bite. Donna left. Joyce: let me tell you that is one scary person to have in charge of a hospital. Alice said she didn't mind as long as she had the funds.
Ada stopped by to get Nancy. She told her of New York and Mac and Rachel. Nancy begged to be allowed to go to be with Perry. Ada: They need to be alone. They're going to have another honeymoon or something. Nancy: HONEYMOONS. They're always having honeymoons, Mom. Nancy pleaded her case eloquently. Ada said she'd see what she could do.
Cass and Kathleen in bed with no clo'es. Talking about nightgowns and boots and snow. And I think I heard the phrase "tightly muscled" in there. Cass' invention, pertaining to himself, natch. Kathleen told him he was fun (citing her numerous near-fatal experiences).
Sally: I wanted to thank you for staying with me at my house until Kevin fell asleep. Catlin: Hey, no problem, I'd do anything for Kevin, I love him, you know that. (Pause.) I think this wood is wet. The fire won't catch. I thought a fire might be nice on a night like this. Sally: Why, what kind of night is it? Catlin: It's cold. I brought a bottle of red wine. Nothing like a good bottle of red wine after a cheeseburger. Sally: Catlin, what's going on? (Commercial.) Well, you seem so tense. Catlin: I don't feel tense. Sally: Come here. Let me try something. (Kneading of soldiers.) Now just relax. Catlin: OW. Not so hard. Sally: You've got about six knots going back there. Catlin: Okay, so I'm a little tense. Sally: Honey, it's understandable, you've got so many things going on right now. I mean you might get washed out of the police academy, you've got your first mortgage, we're getting married. Catlin: I'm getting married to YOU. I'm making a life with you and Kevin. Those are the GOOD things in my life. Sally: Well it's a lot of responsibility. Catlin: I'm ready for it. It's something I WANT. Sally: Are you sure? Catlin: Course I'm sure. You make me so happy. It's just there's -- there's a lot in the past. Sally: Tell me about that, honey. We all have things hiding in the closet somewhere. Catlin: Even you? Sally: Yeah, even me. (Does she ever.) Catlin: 'S nothing. I feel better now, really. 'S Just been a long day. Sally: Okay. We don't have to talk now. I just want you to know that if you change your mind, you know where you can find me. (At present on his knee.) Catlin: Right next to me, every night. Sally: Forever. Catlin: I love you so much. Do you know that? Sally: I love you too. No matter what. Clutching of his head to her shoulder.
Ada tried subtly to manage Nancy's request with Rachel. She ran togetherness down. She beefed up the business aspect. She suggested a third party. Rachel thought she meant herself. Sandy arrived before Ada could explain. Mac told him of KBAY. Sandy said he was considering Donna's proposition too. Blaine's already devoted to KBAY. Stampede to the dinner table. After Rachel said Ada was going to NYC. Ada and Nancy left behind. Nancy protested. Ada: Something zigged when it should'a' zagged.
Dee and Lily returned early. Somehow Lily clued in to what had occurred and successfully prevented Dee from hitting the sack. Dee kept saying "But what is Winthrop going to say?" or kindred things. They went out to Smiley's. Dee gives up.
Ada told Nancy straight out doesn't work with Rachel. Nancy said to try it. They did. It worked. Ada was taken aback. They's all 4 going. Nancy said the day started out WEIRD but it ended perfectly.
Cass and Kathleen clothed have missed the ballet. Kathleen said she'd wanted to grow up to be a ballerina. Cass: What happened? Couldn't afford the lessons? She pleaded weak ankles. He admitted to having wanted to become a doctor. Kathleen: What happened? Couldn't afford the lessons? Cass said he couldn't stand the sight of blood. Chicken she said. Cass talked about Dr. Kildare being nowhere near blood and dashing in his white smock and sensitive. Kathleen said Dr. Kildare couldn't hold a candle to Cass (who, she claims, is every one of those things. Feeding the man's ego.) He told her she was more exotic than Anna Pavlova. She denied it. He persisted. Kathleen (her arms about him): I feel so close to you. Cass: You are.
Sally at the hospital. Talking to Alice. About pew bows. Discerning Alice saw that was not all. Alice: Would you like to tell me what's really bothering you? Sally: I saw Catlin talking to someone tonight and I think he's keeping something from me. (COMMERCIAL as this makes its impact.) Alice: (slowly) So you saw Catlin talking to someone. Where? Sally: Smiley's parking lot. Alice: I see. How long did they talk? Sally: Five minutes, maybe. Alice: FIVE MINUTES, oh, Sally, that's just terrible. Sally: Mom, please don't tease me about this. I think it was a girl from his Past. He doesn't know I saw him talking to her. Alice: So why don't you tell him? Sally: Because I want him to tell me first. Alice: Tell you what? Sally: I don't know. Alice: Sally, what's he going to say? That he was talking to a girl in the parking lot for five minutes? Sally: Well, yeah, that'd be good, for starters. Alice: Well maybe she was just asking him where the nearest car wash was. Sally: Mom, I think it was a lot more important than that. What I'm saying is I don't understand why he wouldn't tell me about it. Alice: Well. I don't think it's anything, honey, but if it's going to bother you I really think you should talk to him. Sally: I can't do that. I've got to trust him. I mean if she was someone important to him, if he knew her somehow, then he would've told me.
Willa on the phone in a sleazy motel. She told whoever it was on the other end they were scaring him too much and she needed more time.
Why now. WHY NOW WILLA he said gazing at the murderous poker in his hand YOU'VE GOT TO LEAVE ME ALONE.
Oh I know. He was a Wyoming gigolo and she was in charge of him. Like Ginger & Peter (of Santa Barbara) it's obvious. Lord knows precisely what she did but it must've been some sight. (I can just picture her keeping him on a little leash. Oo ick. It's so funny. He's glowering.) Actually Catlin said there had been nothing between them but also that he never thought he could love anyone so much again or something like that ergo she'd made trouble for him and some other female.
