The Cryptozoology Archives: Alleged Prehistoric Survivors
Cryptozoology finds a lot of its cryptids being explained as
prehistoric survivors--that is, animals thought extinct that are actually
still living. Most cryptids can be described this way. However appealing
such stories are, I find that many--like living dinosaurs and
pterosaurs--are too unlikely in light of accepted paleontological evidence
to warrant serious consideration. However, some stories are more promising,
such as contemporary survival of Pleistocene megafauna in areas such as
Madagascar (see giant lemur report below).
