Your WiFI connection is a major tether between your Computer and the WWW. Whether it is at a coffee house, within your own home network or at allowed work connection your WiFi connection is your likely connection form. Being aware of those connections you use and keeping them managed and minimized is one step towords having a managed and safe processing platform. NOTE: It is in NO way SUFFICIENT or a complete solution.
I developed these routines in order to meet my conflicting goals of running my computer on a continuous basis to support mass computing initiatives like SETI or Folding@Home and wanting to minimize my connection state. I was also inspired by some of the Dr Scripto, Microsoft Scripting Guy blogs on putting some positive management efforts to this access portal. In no way does it protect a machine. It does make my attack surface a little bit smaller and a little less attractive to those who want to use the machine for nefarious reasons.
