Human Power Choices

  • Walk - takes about 10 minutes per kilometer.  How far do you travel on each trip?
  • Bicycle - learn the proper skills and follow safety and traffic rules.  Take a Can-Bike course if  it's available in your area.
  • Rollerblade - always wear the proper safety equipment.
  • Skate - some cities have special opportunities for commuting by skating, like Ottawa. (Under threat from climate change)
  • Ski - for the more adventurous, skiing, snowshoeing or other means are a great opportunity to practice skills.  For travelling to school, the kids will love it!
  • Canoe or kayak - for those adventurous folks who have the opportunity to commute by water, or would prefer the tranquil setting when recreating, canoeing and kayaking avoid the emissions and health risks of power boating and marine fuels.
  • or try one of these
Any of these transportation modes help both the environment and your health, and they can be a lot of fun.

Here are some of the benefits of choosing human power.  There are also many health benefits of choosing more active transportation.  Go For Green has some good advice for active transportation.
