Change Poems

   Embrace

   It's changing,
   Everything is changing,
   Technology is to blame,
It is spreading it's wire like tentacles,
Spreading into every aspect of my life,
   of your life,
   of our lives.
   It's already changed me,
   I love the change,
   The transformation fascinates me,
Every day life as we know it will be no more,
Even the simple things have changed,
   Rapid,
   And irreversible.
   Don't deny the coming,
Don't attempt to prevent the change,
Don't let it pass leaving you behind,
Don't fear that which is new,
Doesn't matter if you love it or hate it,
   Just so long as you,
   Embrace it.5

The changes are coming undeniably fast now and people are constantly wondering if they can keep up with the pace of change. "Screech that the constant is/Change, change." 6 The poems seem so to reflect this preoccupation with constant change, but perhaps what really reflects the transient nature of the technological world is the very fact that most of the poetry I found is less than two years old.

Some people are quite willing to accept the changes with grace, as in the first poem or "Technophobe":

And all this technical wizardry
hath brought me here.
Out of the past,
into the future.
(...)
I am who I am,
because of this device.
It has opened my eyes,
shown me the world!7
But others look longingly to the past faced with the rush of changes for the future and worry about doomsday predictions: "How I wish we were back there, that cold wet night,/ With just one more chance to get everything right !" 8
