WHAT'S UP?
First of all, thank
you to those who sent submissions over the last long while.
Due to editorial relocations, some of
these got forwarded from Canada Post and I have
been having great difficulty tracking them down. Secondly, there have been some mitigating factors as the editor got schmucked by a car and has been taking a long while to recover. In fact,
I'll just say: many apologies. For those of you whose stuff
I now have in possession, you'll be getting those back in
the mail soon.
Good News: Trout is back! We are putting together a new issue! There may yet be a change of title...More on this later!
RANT RANT RANT:
WHITHER TROUT? In the light of the gruesome
drama that is being played out in our stagnant post-literate
wasteland dotted with automatons of electric reception and
consumers of 'culture' (culture usually imported from USA),
I see only the faintest glimmer of hope. How do we get litzines distributed,
produced, and yes, pay the poets and writers
and artists for their work? Does
'limited time and resources' sound familiar to you? - it's
a challenge to which Trout will rise. Do ezines work? Yes, and no. What has
happened to the magic of the printed page, the smell of
wood-pulp and iron and oak gall, the texture of paper in the
hand, the excitement of opening a page wherever, whenever,
because that little zine is in your pocket, gymbag, piece of
luggage, bedroom, kitchen, bus. The words that leap out
because they are with you, living, alive, sharing and
informing the totality of your experience. I still believe
in the power of the printed word.
