You and Your 1998 Property Taxes

Two million are expected to appeal their revised Ontario property values, resulting from the introduction of the Ontario Fair Assessment System, reported the Ottawa Citizen on Feb 19,98 (front page top).

Community Assessment Information Sessions were held March 16-19 to give you an opportunity to discuss your new assessment with a property assessor. Also you can call 800-827-1857, or visit www.gov.on.ca/FIN/english/propeng.htm

You will by now have received your Estimated Current Value. To check the "Notional Rate" to multiply this with to get to your annual tax amount, visit the RMOC website.. If you are a residential or farm owner in Kanata the factor is likely to be 1.9248%. In my case, in a Kanata Lakes semi, my tax rises 12.56%.

Will you be paying a "fair share" in 1998? Do you know how the "share" for your class of property will be determined? Do you know who will be responsible for setting the share? Do you understand your current local assessment value?

If not perhaps you should come to a M.A.S.T.E.R.* and get informed!

Dennis Date, the former Treasurer of London and Kanata will "share" with you his review and findings about the Ontario Fair Tax Assessment System which comes into force January 1, 1998.

Call 591-3160 for more information.
