Who am i?

One way or another, I've spent over thirty years in and around publishing. I gained my reputation as a fiction editor withcovers Storyteller, Canada's Short Story Magazine, which I edited throughout the fifteen years of its existence. I've also done freelance writing, everything from advertorials to technical documents, but I don't like it. Editing is more fun for me.

Despite my aversion to writing, I've managed to get a small body of work published, mostly in now defunct magazines, but also in anthologies such as The Mammoth Book of Future Cops and a few of the Ladies' Killing Circle anthologies (nobody was more surprised than I when in 2006 I got nominated for an Arthur Ellis Award). You can read some of my writing for the Ottawa Citizen's Point of View column on the Party Pieces pages of this site.

I'm the author of two books for writers, The Storyteller Fiction Writer's Companion and The Storyteller Fiction Writers Workbook. The latter is still available for $25 (Cdn or US), which includes shipping and taxes. Please contact me if you wish to purchase a copy.

I've presented workshops and lectures at the Surrey International Writers' Conference, the Bloody Words Conference, and to most of the writers' organizations here in Ottawa. As well, I teach creative writing for the Ottawa School Board's Continuing Education program.

You may have landed here because you're looking for someone to edit your book. Yes, I do that--but not for free. You can find out about my rates here.
