Heather (Elliott) Carey's poem (written June 28, 2001),
read at the funeral.

Nana,

I love you for the beautiful sunflowers at the farm,
For the swims in the dugout where you carried me In your arms.

I love you for letting me help you with supper.
I lied when I said mom let me peel potatoes at home;
you trusted me with a knife.

I love you for the freedom you gave me, allowing me to grow, forgiving me my faults and always helping me to overcome my shortfalls.

I love you for the home, the one which remained consistent throughout my life. Your openness with me about how life can do you wrong.

I love you for your faith, one that no matter our religious differences, transcends the maternal generations

I love you for your smile, always quick and bright always able to make me feel special.

I love you for always being there for me, no matter what. But most of all...

I love you for my mom.
