Expectations

• A2. describe the different types of software products, and assess the software needs of users;
• A4. demonstrate an understanding of home computer networking concepts;
• B2. plan and write simple programs using fundamental programming concepts;
• B3. apply basic code maintenance techniques when writing programs.

In the second assignment (Grass Spider) you selected computer components, peripherals and an operating system for a new computer for yourself or a family member. For this assignment, imagine that you are setting up that computer in your home. There are several steps that must be done. Please investigate these steps and describe how they should be done and what alternatives exist.

1. Install application software such as a virus checker and image processing software.
2. Connect the computer to a home network and to the Internet.
3. Organize files, folders and peripherals (such as a printer) so that some are private and some are shared.

As usual, you should put your report into web pages created with HTML tags. This time, create one web page for each step, with links between them. Create ONE common style sheet file for all of them to share, and link each web page to that style sheet. Try to organize your HTML and CSS code using indents, spaces and comments so that it easy for another programmer (and the teacher) to read and understand.
