Unfortunately, the next day on the open North Atlantic the weather was 'Moderate N'ly gale, rough sea, heavy swell' Everyone was seasick, and as Wynne noted on the luncheon menu: 'All came back!' It must have been a trying time for Des and Wynne, looking after two sick young boys while feeling very sick themselves.

Martin has another unfortunate memory of the trip: One day on board I was going to the public bathroom with Dad and somehow got locked in a toilet stall that I couldn't open. Dad didn't seem to be able to help from outside and I was quite upset inside. Then Dad got a fellow passenger, younger and smaller than him but bigger than me, to wiggle under the gap beneath the door and unlock the door so Dad could get in and provide whatever help I needed. I think my own memories of the event were the distress of being stuck and the relief of seeing the young lad coming under the door to help.
